A little break ...

Hello sweet blogging friends of mine,

This past Sunday was incredibly difficult for me. I was completely blindsided by something so big that my heart was shattered into a million little pieces. I did not see this coming. I was not prepared. I am, to put it bluntly, temporarily broken.

I have some really tough choices to make over the next few days and I am not looking forward to making them. Your prayers would be much appreciated during this life trial.

I've decided to take a break from blogging to give myself time to process all that has happened and to truly give myself the space and privacy I need to heal. I'll be missing in blogging action until my return from Portland on the 18th ... and possibly longer. I'll try my best to keep up with all your blogs, but no promises :(

Thanks for lifting me up in prayer. I believe I belong to a God who loves me and Who is anxious and more than willing to carry me through this. That is such a comfort.

on alert.

This morning I was woken up to the sound of my phone ringing. It was a text message from my mom - "Tsunami alert for Vancouver. Expected to hit around 10am. Please turn your radio on and stay safe." If a message like that doesn't jolt a person out of bed, nothing will.

I immediately logged into Google News and read the reports of the horrific earthquake in Japan. And, at the end of one article was this image -

Tsunami Advisory.
Estimated Tsunami Arrival Times.
And my city is there, with a yellow line straight through it.
I think my heart stopped for a few seconds when I saw that. There are no words.

As the morning went on, the reports became a little clearer and although the Tsunami Advisory is still in effect, the city of Vancouver isn't expected to be affected in anyway (there are still some concerns for Vancouver Island, though). I'm breathing a little easier at the moment but my heart is just broken for Japan. I was terrified knowing we were "on alert" ... I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to actually experience a disaster like the one they just experienced. My thoughts and prayers are with the Japanese today.

Sometimes, cupcakes help.

Wow. I have had one heck of a week. First, my university football team lost one of its players in a car crash and I was (and continue to be) completely devastated about that. Rest in peace Ricky Zieba. Then my favorite NFL football player (Steve McNair) was shot and killed ... total shock. Then, last night, I was in the ER at the hospital from 5:30pm - 6:00am with my grandmother. By the time I got home, I was so exhausted and starving and frustrated and sad that all I wanted t0 do was sleep ... and sleep I did. I slept all day and just woke up about an hour ago. What was the first thing I did when I woke up? Made myself a coffee, went down to the computer and ordered this bag:

What can I say? Sometimes, cupcakes just help.
Anyways, my grandmother is fine and is now at home and back to her usual antics ... but please pray for the Zieba family, the McNair family and all of the broken-hearted people I met the in ER last night ... The emergency room is an incredibly sad place. :o(

when it rains, it pours ...

These days, I am overwhelmed and tired and worried and exhausted. The stress is making me moody and irritable, so I am probably not the nicest person to be around these days. All I can say is: thank God (literally!) for my Bible. I am soooooo grateful to be able to open God's Word and read His promises and be reminded that I am not alone in my fight. I have posted this verse, Romans 8:37-39, up on my wall where I see it several times a day :

In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:37-39

Please send up prayers for me and my family. Pray for healing, for strength and most of all for an abundance of faith.
